Measuring readiness for the rigors of academic life...

ATI’s student assessments begin with the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS®). The TEAS® assesses the academic preparedness of entry-level nursing students in Reading, Math, Science, and English and Language Usage. A TEAS® Study Manual and an online practice assessment are available for the students to use for preparation and review.

When taking the TEAS®, students will demonstrate reading skills in paragraph comprehension, passage comprehension, and inferences and conclusions. The math section will measure their knowledge of whole numbers, metric conversion, fractions and decimals, algebraic application, percentages, ratio and proportion, and data interpretation. Science covers scientific reasoning, life science, chemical science, physical science, human body science, and general science. And in the English section, students will tackle punctuation, grammar, sentence structure, contextual words, and spelling.

Composite scores are computed in each of these four areas. Subscores are also generated to assess specific content mastery. The scores are to be used in conjunction with other affective and cognitive measures of performance and are not to be used as the sole criterion for admission decisions.

Students taking the TEAS® can arrange to have their scores sent to any schools to which they are applying.
