Course Description:
While pressure ulcers are responsible for a tremendous amount of patient discomfort and disability, not to mention the consumption of a significant amount of time and health care resources, they are to a large degree preventable. In the health care setting, prevention primarily depends on effective assessment and intervention by nurses.
Objectives:

Review the general anatomy and physiology of the integumentary system.

Review the pathophysiology resulting in damage to the integumentary layers.

Identify the risk factors that impact the development of pressure ulcers.

Apply the appropriate physical assessment techniques and tools for identifying pressure injury to the integument.

Plan the appropriate nursing interventions for the patient with existing risks for pressure ulcer.

Evaluate the effectiveness of the implemented plan of nursing care for patients at risk for pressure injury.
Passing Requirement: A 75% passing score and completion of a course evaluation is required in order to receive a certificate of successful completion.
