Opposition to DEI policies threatens the quality of nursing education & healthcare

"Recruiting more nursing students and educators from diverse backgrounds must be a key strategy in filling the nursing pipeline."
In a recent column in the Dallas Morning News, which was reprinted in Healthleaders Magazine, veteran nurse and educator Sharon Myers Falk (an ATI Nursing Education Specialist) shared her concerns about policies that oppose the promotion of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in state educational institutions.

"As a nurse of over 30 years — some of which have been spent in the classroom as a nurse educator — I’ve found that DEI policies greatly enhance the quality of education and are indispensable in making my students feel more appreciated, engaged and empowered," writes Falk, BSN, MSN. "If our state focuses on policies of exclusion instead of policies of inclusion, we’ll see lower enrollments in nursing schools — and, ultimately, decreased numbers of nurses ready to care for patients in need. We cannot afford that."
